Amazon gives bloggers another channel
Thu 22 Nov 2007 13:14Using a blog as part of your marketing strategy? Now there's another portable device it could end up on - Amazon's Kindle e-book reader.
They hope it will be the iPod of digital books - a device about the size of a paperback with electronic paper for a screen, Amazon's Kindle can download e-books ($9.95 a title), magazine and newspapers from it's Whispernet online store, via the Sprint mobile phone networks. When it was release on Tuesday - it sold out in under 12 hours.
Significance to content producers
Here's the interesting bit - on the Kindle you can subscribe to a growing list of top blogs, and whenever a new post is created - it's downloaded to the Kindle. So it looks like the Kindle has reached the holy grail I often talk about for podcasting - but for blogs. In other words people will now be walking about, carrying a device onto which your latest blog post could appear automatically - seconds after you published it - now that's powerful!
Significance to content consumers
Blog consumers an now get content on the move almost in real time.
Significance to Internet marketers
Although this is early days - the device is currently only available in the USA - seriously keep an eye on this and other devices that open up new, real time, channels of content delivery. I'm sure there's more exciting stuff like this to come.
